The Company:
CJ Cable,
LLC is a family-owned company. Its members, Bob and Shirley
Merz
and Jay and Cindy Cable have
lived in Florence for a combined total of 189
years! This project was born from a desire to create a beautiful
legacy to the family along the banks of the Siuslaw River, which has been a
constant part of their lives all these years. Bob's parents moved
to
the
Florence area in the late 1920's. Bob and Shirley's daughter, Cindy,
was born and raised in
Florence and has followed by raising her family here.
The
Building:
This
design stems from Cindy's idea for a waterfront building
that "...looks like it's been here forever and will be here forever."
Its simple lines and warehouse feel make it fit right in with the working
waterfront. Special attention has been given to maximizing the
view of the river
from each unit. Living on the Oregon Coast in the winter can challenge
ones mood; the building allows plenty of light to enter the living space
so you can avoid the winter doldrums.
The Architect:
John
Lawless of TBG Architects
and
Planners has done a fabulous
job
interpreting Cindy's initial layout. "He has really captured the idea and
feeling we wanted to project." says Cindy. "I told him I wanted a
cross between San Francisco Nob Hill and Cannery Row. I was
amazed with what he
developed! John has been just great to work with. He is extremely
knowledgeable and very responsive, plus he makes the project fun!"
